The Day I Wanted to Pursue a Medical Career...

Everyone has a story of the day they found out which career they wanted to pursue. Some found out the career they wanted to pursue at a young age, while others found out later. Today, I'm going to share my story of how I found out that I wanted to have a career in medicine...

As a young girl, I dreamed of having different jobs. I wanted to be a chef, an inventor, a missionary, a pastor, an artist, a teacher... the list went on!!! But as I got older, I found out that I didn't want to pursue most of the careers I dreamed of having as a young girl.

During 8th grade, while we were taking Physical Science, I decided that I wanted to become a physicist. I did like physical science (especially when we learned about space and the theories of time travelling), but I had a weird feeling that I didn't really want to be a physicist.

When I became a freshman in high school, the school announced that there would be a Pre-Med Club. I decided to go. At that time, I was looking for any opportunity to advance my college resume. I was already a part of our school's Model U.N. Club and was looking forward to being in more clubs.

I clearly remembered the day when I entered Pre-Med Club... I LOVED IT!!! I was extremely fascinated, and right after the club I told myself that I wanted to have a career in medicine.

My interest in medicine got bigger when we started to learn about the human body in Biology class. At the beginning of the year, I was learning about Kingdom Plantae (and I really didn't enjoy it!). I thought I wasn't going to like Biology the whole year until we started learning anatomy & physiology. When we started learning about the human body, my favorite class changed from Honors World History to Honors Biology.

Even to this day, I dream of having a medical career, and I specifically want to be a surgeon (I don't know which one yet!) I want to save lives and share the gospel to the underprivileged around the world. I know for sure that my medical specialty will change as I start doing rotations in my third year of medical school. But in the meantime, I like taking career tests/medical specialty aptitude tests online and watching surgeries on Youtube! (Yes, I know I'm weird!😆)

I'll end this post with a nice quote...

"Wherever the art of medicine is loved,
there is also a love of humanity."
~Hippocrates

Cesarean Section

Important notice: To those of you who read my posts faithfully, I have something to tell you. If you notice, I publish my posts every four to five days. But as school is approaching, and as my schedule gets tighter I decided that I will write my posts once a week instead of every four to five days. After this post, I will start writing on Fridays.  I'm also curious as to which type of posts you enjoy reading the most on my blog. I want to know which type of posts I should be writing more of. Therefore, I made a poll.  Please check out the link to the poll below and vote. ↓↓↓↓ Link to poll:  http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=598cac60e4b0fa6088cce9a1 ________________________________________________ Today's post is on  another surgery. Acute Subdural Hematoma Surgery

source Welcome back to my blog! For today's post, I decided to do something a little different. I want to put up a Youtube video of a brain surgery that I enjoyed watching. The patient is an 83 year old woman who fell down and injured her head.  This injury had given her acute subdural hematoma. Acute subdural hematoma (SDH), is usually caused by a head injury from a fall, an assault or a motor vehicle collision. SDH is a clot of blood that is formed between the dura mater (the brain's tough outer covering) and the brain. This blood clot is formed due to the stretching and tearing of veins on the brain's surface. These veins rupture when a head injury shakes and jolts the brain.  This surgery is done by a brain surgeon who will cut open the patient's head and remove the blood clot.  ** WARNING: Do not watch this video if you are squeamish at the sight of blood!!! ** If you are not squeamish at the sight of blood, sit back, relax and learn something n...

LEARN MORE ABOUT ME - Q&A SESSION

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome back to those who faithfully read my posts. And welcome to my blog to those who are new! Check out my other posts if you haven't yet. They're quite interesting.  T o kick off the new year, I wanted to do a Q&A post.  As I was looking through my previous blog posts, I saw that most of my posts were about medicine and college. None of them were about me! (Lol! I don't mean to sound selfish!😂) I really want my audience to know more about me. So, I hope you don't mind if I make this post a little different! ______   Here are a few common questions with my answer: Q: "What is your name?" A: My name is Kristine (with a 'K' if you didn't notice!). People tend to spell my name with a 'Ch' and its quite annoying! 😂 Q: "What grade are you in?" A: I am a sophomore in high school. Q: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" A: A doctor (duh!) That's why I made this blo...
