3 REASONS WHY YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T GO TO MED SCHOOL

*Hey guys! I was finally able to post on this blog. Sorry for not posting in FOREVER! School, sports, and clubs have been consuming A LOT of my time. I'm sooooo sorry for keeping you all waiting. I wish I could promise to post every single week, but I just know I can't. You never know what the week may have in store for you. So, without further ado, let's move on!*
Sincerely,
~Kristine

Believe it or not, med school is not for everyone. People around the world go to med school for various reasons, and some of them are not that great.

Therefore, I want to talk about reasons why you should not go to med school.

1. To Make Money
This is the biggest reason why many people want to go into med school and become doctors. What they don't know is that after going through 4 years of med school, they go into a few years of residency. A residency program may last three to eight years depending on the specialty. As a resident, you do not make a lot of money. An average resident makes about $50,000 a year! On top of that, you would have to pay a med school debt which is usually $170,000! Unless you are willing to wait, doctors don't make tons of money from the start. It takes patience and perseverance to make the money. Those of you who are passionate about becoming a doctor (not because of the money), do not be discouraged. As long as you are doing what you love, nothing will stop you! Remember, later on, your hard work will pay off!

2. It's Your Parents' Dream
It surprises me that people go to medical school because their parents want them to. Some of you falsely believe your parents will 'disown' you if you do not become a doctor. If you go into med school because it's your parents' dream, you do not know what you are getting yourself into! Eventually, this will lead to dissatisfaction. If you are SOOOO dissatisfied and end up switching to another major you actually like, it will be a HUGE waste of money. You wouldn't want that to happen!

Remember, it's your life to live, and you shouldn't live it for another person.

3. You Are Not Able to Sacrifice Some Aspects of Your Life

You must know that medicine is stressful! It can consume a lot of your life. That interesting book you started to read may never be finished. That guitar you loved to play may start to collect some dust. Are you willing to sacrifice that hangout with friends to study for the USMLE Step 1? Those are important questions you should ask yourself.

Let's get real: medicine is tough. And when you choose to go to med school without thinking, you are basically sending yourself through hell! Although I gave you some reasons you probably shouldn't go to med school, it's only up to you, (and no one else) to decide what is best.

Important notice: To those of you who read my posts faithfully, I have something to tell you. If you notice, I publish my posts every four to five days. But as school is approaching, and as my schedule gets tighter I decided that I will write my posts once a week instead of every four to five days. After this post, I will start writing on Fridays.  I'm also curious as to which type of posts you enjoy reading the most on my blog. I want to know which type of posts I should be writing more of. Therefore, I made a poll.  Please check out the link to the poll below and vote. ↓↓↓↓ Link to poll:  http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=598cac60e4b0fa6088cce9a1 ________________________________________________ Today's post is on  another surgery. In light of the current college application season, I will be editing college essays for free (no strings attached!). If you want me to edit your essays, please let me know in the comment section below, and I'll reach out to you as to where to send your essays. The Day I Wanted to Pursue a Medical Career...

Some found out the career they wanted to pursue at a young age, while others found out later. Today, I'm going to share my story of how I found out that I wanted to have a career in medicine... As a young girl, I dreamed of having different jobs. I wanted to be a chef, an inventor, a missionary, a pastor, an artist, a teacher... the list went on!!! But as I got older, I found out that I didn't want to pursue most of the careers I dreamed of having as a young girl.  During 8th grade, while we were taking Physical Science, I decided that I wanted to become a physicist. I did like physical science (especially when we learned about space and the theories of time travelling), but I had a weird feeling that I didn't really want to be a physicist.  When ...
